"I am doing great! That stye in my eye is almost completely gone.  I loved seeing the pictures from Music and the spoken word, you all look great-I'm so glad Grandpa got to go!

Rachel's new place in Olympia

Rachel LOVES red, so she was tickled with the new car
Rachel's time on the computer has been limited in this new area so she has been sending home letters for the past few weeks....

"I'll start answering your questions first today, My new companion is Sister Jumaonville.  Her first name is Retta and she is from McPherson, Kansas.  Dad, I thought she went to school at UVU but she was at the University of Utah.  I told her you did your PhD there.  She has been out almost 6 months.  She is a visa waiter, like Sister Dean.  She will be going to BRAZIL!!!!! Mom, I have heard her read her scriptures in Portuguese-it's so cool!  I pray that she will get her visa soon so she can serve where she was called (ok, I admit I am praying she doesn't get it until after this transfer-selfish, I know, But I really like her... )  She will be turning 21 on the 30th of this month and we have already decided that I will make her a carrot cake (she loves it just like Daddy does!) But I am going to use a mix;0) Ha Ha!

My apartment is a townhome, there is so much room!  I have my own bathroom, a big closet, and a DESK I love it, the only problem is it is dark and doesn't have a ton of light so it can be hard to study in some places.

I am serving in the Olympia 3rd Ward in the Olympia Zone.  I am expecting to be here for two transfers at the least.  Transfer meeting was wonderful and it was fun to see Sister Logan again.  This first week has flown by, we met Darcie one of our new investigators on Tuesday night, then on Wednesday we pulled weeds for service and met our first couple in the ward.  I shared a message about trusting in the Lord.  They have a daughter that was at BYU-idaho and a son  that is waiting for a visa so Sister Jumonville and I had alot in common to talk with them about.  This is the SMALLEST area. It is ALL residential, no fast food, gas, or stores-it's so weird not to see any people during the day out on the street.  They are either in cars or in houses.  The teaching pool is small too, but President said that if we focus on bringing members and missionaries together we will fill that teaching pool right up.  So we are working hard and visiting members giving "Build you Faith" visits which are 15 minutes long and share a message to get them thinking about missionary work-We could use your prayers! Love You!"

P-Day E-mail September 23, 2013

Friends and Family
I have to tell you guys an awesome thing!!

JASON  ( Kayla's step dad!) IS GETTING BAPTIZED! ON SEP. 29th!
I am so happy!!! Last night we had dinner with the Lorance's at the Crockett's (member) home. We watched the Restoration DVD. The spirit was so strong! The whole family was there except the youngest (Jasper) he was home with grandma ( cool story about grandma. Cheryl is her name she asked Sister Davis and I if she could  go to Dana's and Kayla's class. she said " I think I want to start coming back to church." We were stunned but so happy! Cheryl hasn't been to church for over 15 years. We quickly told her of course you can!)

Back to the story. The spirit was strong during the movie.  Sister Davis was entertaining Jacob.  I felt the spirit very strong, I knew that the spirit was testifying to me that this gospel really has been restored to this earth!  Afterwards, Bishop Betteridge and his son Caleb showed up to home teach the Crockett's. (Heavenly Father knew that all of us needed to be there.)  After the movie Sister Davis smoothly took the seat by Jason and I moved behind them to entertain Jacob! We were able to invite Jason to be baptized, the spirit was so strong!  I know Heavenly Father really helped Sister Davis and I know what to do to bring the spirit into the lesson.  It worked out perfectly-It was AMAZING!  President Weaver said " This month lets have the perfect storm." I found out what that meant yesterday. So many things came together to make the perfect storm last night.

Sisters from the Tacoma Zone at Zion's Camp. Rachel is in the back!
I can't believe I have been out (on Thursday..park day eek!) 3 months! Time is flying by and at the same time going by so slow! I need to do what my journal says "happiness is found along the journey". I'm trying to do what my plaque scripture says " Trust in the lord with all thine heart and lean not to thy own understanding." There is a song that I heard last transfer its called "Open My Mouth." I love that song! its about opening your mouth and testifying what you know is true. I'm working on it. Another song is " Don't Give up." I have loved when this song has come on. It seems to come on when I needed it mos. I LOVE personal study! I cherish it!
Zion's Camp is a church owned camp in Washington
Zions' camp was awesome,  did a rope's course. Loved it!  The drive was good too, I'll send a few pics on the drive up. Highlight was the bridge! and I saw so many MORE trees!! :)   I'm so excited I have a training this Wednesday, I go see the broadcast Saturday night, have a Baptism Sunday night, then P-day, and then Transfer meeting, then General Conference! I'm so excited for General Conference!!!! How you guys preparing for Conference?

Saturday Sister Davis puked twice. I felt so bad! She is optimistic though. Even when she is sick. She hasn't puked since Saturday she received a blessing. She has a cold and Bronchitis that never went away when she got it a couple months ago. She is a bit better today, less congested.   I Love Sister Davis. Well time is up. I love you so much! I hope you have a great week!
Read your Scriptures
Say your Prayers
Share with me anything interesting  you have learned!
Love,
Sister Rachel M. Fabis

P.S. K,  pix will have to be next week.  I'm out of time! We got here at 10. leaving at 11:30 .  We are going to get mail! It's crazy the next time I go get mail, it might be the last time getting it from the mission office. CRAZY thought.  I keep telling myself "Change is good." Love you bunches!!!

P-Day E-mail Septemer 16, 2013

Hi!
Do you like the pictures?!

This week is Zion's Camp. It's going to be so fun! It's this Thursday I get to wear jeans and play games.  President is doing it in Zones we are praying that it won't be rainy.  I'm so excited!!!
I have no idea who this Siste is, but she is a cutie!
I love exchanges!!! I went with Sister Wilkins and Sister Dean.  Oh, love them so much!  I'm feeling good and continuing to feast upon the words of Christ 2 Nephi 2 (I think verse 23?)   Being steadfast and having a perfect brightness of hope.  A few weeks ago Dad gave me that scripture to read. Helped me so much.

(I had asked Rachel about music and her mission.  They seem to sing alot, more than I ever did)
Yes! My mission is very into music! At Zone Conference we sang songs and it helped and touched me a lot.  I needed to feel the spirit much more that day. Sister Weaver is very into music. President Weaver is too.  Not quite as much as Sister Weaver-but I love it! I will be singing at a fireside, I'm not sure when.

(I served my mission pretty much during the same time of year  almost 25 years ago.  She asks me to write stories or excerpts from my mission journal in my letters.  I had taught my first family in September of 1987)
Rachel with a Sister from her MTC District
I loved your mission story. I find ways to relate and how I can improve and be a better missionary. I am reading with my mission the Book of Mormon. We are on page 80.  I received a blessing last week -it was amazing! I was instructed to study the atonement. I have ignored the prompting to study the atonement, I don't know why, but I listened after that blessing. Now every night before bed I tell Heavenly Father my personal study plan and ask him to help guide me to change what I need to. I have done so much more praying this transfer-OK, actually a ton. It's good.  I'm grateful to be getting closer to having a better relationship with him.

I miss you all but I know that if I had the option to leave tomorrow to come home, I wouldn't. I love striving to be the best I can be.  Always learning and seeking to gain more knowledge, work on my weaknesses, find my spiritual talents, and get to know my brother Jesus Christ better than I hope to imagine. Christ is my perfect example -I'm going to follow.
I love you
Have a Fabulous week!

John and his Wife Ping and Rachel
Missionary Moments,

Last Wednesday was Zone Conference. It was a spiritual boost!  One thing I want to share is that I learned that we need to live the higher law of charity. I can't wait to study more about charity.  I love personal study in the morning. It’s the best part of my morning!  After Zone Conference Sister Davis & I went to Menchies it was fun!

Thursday morning was the perfect missionary morning. I did everything on time. I am still on track with reading 5 pages a day with my mission. I love that. After lunch we went to Jason's family's house and talked with them and told them about Stake Conference this weekend.  After we went to see the Had Family. Such a sweet family!  They will be moving and I hope we can help them pack. SERVICE opportunity !

While knocking doors, we ran into Jessie. He was so funny he pretended to not to be a member.  It was the funniest thing ever!  He wasn't sure if he is going on a mission.  The next day we ran into him again. We asked how he was doing.  I read him Ether 12:27 I testified and shared my testimony. Sister Davis bore her's too. That was a cool missionary moment.

On Saturday I read 1 Nephi 16:29 " by small means the lord can bring about great things."  I want to bear you my testimony that Heavenly Father is aware of what we are going through. He wants to help us he just needs to hear us ask and tell him what we are feeling. Heavenly Father won't leave us.

While serving here I realize some things about beauty.  Being beautiful isn't a pretty face, it’s the light you see when you look into a person's eyes. You see how beautiful they are inside. Being beautiful inside makes you beautiful outside.  Everyday in this crazy world they say buy this new mascara make your eyes more beautiful, buy this new skirt it will make you beautiful. Those things are temporal. They won't make you feel happy for long. I have seen true beauty here.

This week, I want to challenge you to look inside yourself and see what your weakness are. Read Ether 12:27 and write down some things that are bringing you down.  After writing them down and pondering. Ask Heavenly Father to help you.  He wants to hear from you he will help you in HIS WAY AND TIMING. Heavenly Father knows best. He loves every one of you! I love you too!  Remember you are never alone.

Have a great week!

Love you!

Saying Good-bye to Sister Logan on Transfer Day!

Dear friends and family,

Last Monday was Sister Logan and my last p-day. It was awesome got to see Sister Logan play her favorite. sport. SOCCER! so fun playing soccer with everyone. I took pictures.  It was good. I enjoyed every minute.

Tuesday-TRANSFER DAY-  Had ups and downs. I was so down in the dumps because Sister Logan was leaving. I helped her pack, and everything was going good- but I have to say the highlight of that day wasn't getting a HUG from her- it was her freaking out about a huge spider! ha ha. I love her! I'll miss killing spiders for her. ;/  I was exhausted by the end of the night. Sister Davis is my new companion. We had dinner with the Farrington's. Sister Farrington is one of the sweetest people I have met. She is married. She is so strong. When I left I made a mental note to bring chocolate ice cream for her birthday tomorrow. I love her.

Wednesday-Was good. Studied. Went and saw Dana and Kayla and Jason and his wife so they could meet Sister Davis. Went to the Bishop's house to introduce Sister Davis.

Thursday-We went and saw a lady named Jane. I thought she wanted to learn about the restoration - boy we were in for a suprise. Jane really just wanted to compare religions. We did our best, and Sister Davis made her realize that we weren't going to join her church. Sister Davis kindly said that if she took our invitation to read the Book of Mormon and had questions to give us a call. That was a moment I will never forget-Eye opening for me.

Friday-Went to Dana and Kayla's to teach the whole family the plan of salvation. Went really well. They had questions at the end and we are going back very soon to answer those questions the best we can. Tried to set up appointment with a girl named Amber she was asleep. We'll try to get her again later.

Saturday- Was a good day. We called Ted a new new contact to see when he wanted to go to the Family History Center to do genealogy work for his family. Had dinner with Leslie- I love her. Sister Davis loved her too. Shared a message about being in tune with the spirit. ( At district meeting we learned about being in tune and removing the radio's and walls so you can always have the spirit with you.) She loved it. Took pizza home. I have ranch waiting at home so I was happy.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WHOLE WEEK!!!! you ready?! I hope you are!

SUNDAY August 25th- Meetings went good. Austin and Andrew and Alexis ( there mom is Alexis.) came to church!!! Alexis hasn't been able to get a Sunday off to come to church because she works at a hospital. I was so happy to see them there. I talked with her for a long time. Ping and John's last Sunday was today. I was so sad, but so inspired and spiritually lifted up at their talks. Ping recent convert (July) is from China and its hard for her to speak English. When she bore her testimony I could hear and understand her completely. I was so grateful for her willingness to stand up, I knew how scared she was. John, her husband, spoke about spiritual nourishment how we can nourish our bodies. nourish means to constantly keep going. keep reading scriptures, pray with quality not quantity! I loved that "Pray with quality not, quantity." That stuck out to me. I want to INVITE you to look in your life and see where you can improve. Don't  just plan. Make a plan then ACT on it! Easier said than done? I know. Get down on your knees and ask sincerely and tell your heavenly father your desires what you want to change, what you can do better. I promise he will answer. He has answered me in ways I didn't expect.
The BEST part!
Sister Davis and I studied after church till 2:45 then went to dinner to the Taylor's (that is an awesome family) Around 4:30 we went to see Kerri. For those of you who don't know, Kerri has been investigating the church since this last February, I think. She comes to church every Sunday. attends the activities. When we were talking small talk and there was a pause, Sister Davis said " Kerri have you thought more about baptism." she said "yes".  I felt prompted and reminded to ask Kerri how the reading the assignment Sister Logan and I gave her was going.  I was scared to ask but, I wanted to know if she had read so I asked her " Kerri did you read?" She hesitated. " I couldn't read all of it. I read some if it.  I read 1 Nephi chapters 1-5." She said that she noticed a change in her life. Things were going better for her. I said. " Kerri Heavenly Father wants to continually bless you. I am so proud of you reading and seeing that you are receiving blessings." she smiled and nodded. We asked what she thought about setting a date to be baptized. Kerri is On-Date for September 1st!!! This next Sunday!  I didn't start with her but I'm one of  MANY missionaries that helped get her where she is. I am so grateful to Heavenly Father to help her realize that the time is now to be BAPTIZED!

Highlights of this last week!
I am so grateful to my Father in Heaven!
"You need to show the lord how much you are willing to work before he will help you and help the people realize when they are ready to be baptized into the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints."
I hope all of you had a great week last week!
I hope you have a great week this week!
love,
Sister Fabis

P-Day E-mail-August 19, 2013

Hi Everyone!
Here is a neat experience Rachel shared in her last letter...

"Sister Logan and I went to Kayla's house, a LARC (recent convert).  She is 12 her sister Dana is 13. Dana knows that the church is true and we are teaching her.  Jason, her dad, was outside with us. Kayla, Dana, Jason, Sister Logan and I. We were reading out of the book of Mormon 1 Nephi 9 and 10. I believe in chapter 10, it was about no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of god-intense stuff.  Jason's mom came outside, she was listening to what we were reading.  At the end she asked "It has been forever since I've been to church but what is the Holy Ghost?" After we told her we finished the chapter. We felt the spirit. When it was time to pray Kayla and Dana were fighting and trying to get the other one to say the prayer.  Jason volunteered. When he said " Amen" Sister Logan and I looked up at each other and smiled, it was a heartfelt prayer. He never has said a prayer with us and here is where the awesome part is-- His mom looked up and said "That was a special moment for me I have never in my life heard my son pray. That was a special moment."

"This week is transfers.  In 24 hours actually!  Sister Logan is going to Lacy. She was "born" in Olympia. Which is right next to Lacy. She is excited to be Sister Esplin's companion.  My Companion will be Sister Davis.  I am glad I can stay in this area with Sister Davis and continue working with our investigators."

Letter Home- Sent August 5 Recieved August 9, 2013

Hi Mom,
I am so grateful for the package you sent me!  I didn't get a chance to answer your questions in the last e-mail so I will do that now.  I like when you send me questions.  It helps me to know what you want to know.
1.  Where do we live and who do we live with?
It's just me and Sister Logan in a small cottage at a Member's house.
2. How much time do I get on the computer and where do I go to use one?
I have 2 hours every P-day.  We got to the library to e-mail.
3.  Are we fed at a Member's Home everyday and do I have to cook for myself?
We have dinner every other day with a member.  We have Elders in our ward too so we rotate.  We have made some dinners at our apartment, like Chicken Alfredo-it was yummy!  For breakfast I usually eat cereal-Frosted Flakes:0)  I'm trying to find some other breakfast things to eat.  For lunch I just have a frozen dinner.  We hardly have anything in our apartment-it's ok though.
4.  Have we started the new church tour and computer program that was talked about on June 23rd?
I know facebook is being used in some missions in the world, but we haven't started that yet.  President Weaver is getting a new I-pad this month, which is exciting!  Church tours we have started.  We gave 2 tours this last week! We have a mission goal of 100!  We need to get more this week.
5. My Daily Schedule is:
6:30     Arise & Breakfast
7:00     Get Ready
8:00     Personal Study
9:00     Companionship Study
10:00    12 Week Program/ On Thursdays we do Weekly Planning
11:00    Lunch/ Except on Thursdays we do Weekly Planning til 12:00
After Lunch we go out to Preach the Word!
4:00     Dinner if we are eating with a Member, if not we keep     working and eat at 7
5:00     Finding-Meaning Tracking
8:00     Go see a LARC (Less Active or Recent Convert)
9:00     Daily Planning-What we did that day and Goals and plan for the next day
10:30   Bedtime
This past week I have had a sore throat, headache, and stomachache.  It kind of feels like when I had strep.  Sister Logan feels fine though.  Sister Weaver knows and might schedule an appointment at the Dr. if I don't feel better soon.  Hopefully, I'll get over this quickly.  I Love you all so much

August 5, 2013-P-day Email

*Rachel told us she was having a very difficult time keeping caught up with her mail.  Almost everytime she writes she mentions that the computer time is cut short because of one activity or another.  And she is not able to write letters any other days except P-day. However she wanted me to post that she LOVES all the support she is recieving.  If she has not responded yet, she will.

It rained on Friday, just a sprinkle. It was awesome!
This past week I didn't feel well on Thursday or Friday.  I felt like I had a fever.  I took an allergey pill and I felt much better.  I'm glad I feel well enough to go to the BBQ today.

On Wednesday we had a church tour! One of our invistigators "K' came -it went great.  He was going to come to church on Sunday, but he called and said he was at a family dinner and wouldn't make it.  He said he would meet with us on Tuesday

We also taught a 16 year old girl "S" she attends another of the churches here in the area.  I thought it went well until she said "thanks for teaching me.  I like you guys, but I'm not sure I'm interested in changing my faith.  I am pretty firm in what I beleive."  She is still planning on attending young women's this week.

We knock doors every day Monday 6-7 and other days 5-7.  Most people are nice, some aren't-but it's all good.  I am grateful for the ones who talk to us. I really like praying with the people who let us say a prayer with them.

(*I had told Rachel that I had heard that when backing out of a parking place the companion that isn't driving has to exit the car and make sure they don't hit anything and I asked her if they have the same rule there.  This was the answer.)
Ha Ha !  Yes, it is true.  I guess that was a real problem and there were lots of accidents-so yeah, they have us do that.

Lots and Lots and Lots of Love,
Sister Fabis

July 29, 2013-E-mail

Dear Family and Friends,

The highlights from this last week-summarized version!

Last Tuesday, July 23rd, I went on exchanges with Sister Packard. I love her! She is sweet and fun and bubbly and full of love! We had an amazing day. I taught the 2nd half of the Restoration with Sister Packard to Kris. Kris is amazing. He got in a accident a while ago and he loved hearing about the rest of the Restoration (they had taught him the first half earlier in the month). We challenged him to keep praying and his answer will come.

Later that day we taught "A" and "S" (a couple). Our Bishop says "They are golden".  "A" wants to raise his baby in the gospel and so does "S". I was s excited to teach them. We taught the Restoration. I felt the need to bear my testimony on Joseph Smith, that he really is a true prophet and the restored gospel is on the earth. I also said that Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.  We invited them to find out for themselves if this was the true church. I felt during the invitation, I should invite them to pray to see if they should be baptized as well. I was scared, but I opened my mouth and found the courage to invite them to pray to know if the church was true and to pray about being baptized on August 6th. They said YES! I couldn't believe it! They were happy and glad we came. I couldn't stop smiling for a long time. I knew Sister Packard felt the spirit so strong! It was an awesome lesson and an awesome day with Sister Packard! I learned so much in the 24 hours with her!

Last Thursday was Park day! Everyone in the mission who has a car doesn't use them. We walked around University Place seeing people we were planing to see. I tried to stay upbeat and focus on the good things.  By the end of the day when I got in the car, I was and am SO grateful we have a car!

Those were some highlights of this week! I love you all! Hope you have a great week! Didn't have a lot of time this week! love you lots!

Love,
Sister Fabis

July 22nd E-mail

HI!!!
I want to share a few things about my wonderful investigators!

“D” is 13 her half sister is 12 and just got baptized before I got here. “D” knows the gospel is true. Their mom is interested in learning about what the girls know so, we are teaching her the plan of salvation.

“K” is in her 40's she is so sweet! She has been coming to church for a LONG time!  My companion/ trainer has taught her all the lessons multiple times. The good thing is she is coming to church feeling the spirit. Something is holding her back. I don't know. We'll figure it out.

“J” is in her 40's I LOVE her!!!  “J” is so sweet she knows the gospel is true. She told us yesterday she would go on a church tour with us but she fell through. It's about planting seeds.

“K” is So awesome! I'm saying about everyone but its true!  “K” is in his 30's I think.  He got into an accident and the right side of his body doesn't work. He is so cool! Sister Logan and I taught him part of the Restoration. I taught faith and the Holy Ghost. I think I did OK for being brand new. We are teaching him tomorrow finishing the restoration.

“A” and “A” are twins. Their Mom and Dad are divorced but are members.  The boys want to be baptized, but the Father doesn’t want someone else to baptize them and right now he can’t.  I have been thinking of them so much.  It would be wonderful if the Father became worthy and was able to baptize them, but if not, I hope his heart will be softened and let his boys become members like they want.  Can you keep this family in your prayers?

I miss you guys so much! But, I'm bringing you along on my journey:D Thank you for supporting me! I love you and keep reading scriptures everyday and pray! I love you! I want to testify to you that if you read your scriptures and try to understand what you’re reading; Heavenly Father will help you with things in your life. I have felt and witnessed it for myself! This week in family scripture study to read the introduction of the Book of Mormon and name 10 things that stick out to you:D

Have a great week!
Love,
Sister Fabis
